Usually when I think about holidays, my mind goes straight to sunny, warm beaches with lots of time for relaxing, swimming, riding jet skis and of course tanning, however, this July, for the first time ever, I am off to New Zealand for a winter holiday!!!
My best friend and I are off for 8 days starting in Auckland and ending in Queenstown.
The first thing we had to decide on was where to go. There is so much to do and see in New Zealand and 8 days will definitely not do it justice. We decided to focus most of our time on the north island with a little bit of time in the South Island (which I will defs be going back to another time!). The main stops we are making are, Auckland, Rotorua, Taupo, Wellington and Queenstown. We have plenty of activities booked along the way which I will be sure to post about after the holiday!
Clothing is such an important thing when going on a winter holiday, you cannot just stick on a dress and be set for the day, you need about 5 layers every day just to stay warm so it needs to be well thought out. Thermals are going to be my best friend over there, alongside jumpers, thick socks, scarves, beanies, big jackets and gloves. The hardest part about this is going to be packing it all in, my clothes, along with ski gear and everything else is going to be impossible!!! One thing that will be a lifesaver is compression travel bags. Oh my god, these things are great, especially when you are taking puffy jackets!
Going on a winter holiday to New Zealand, we have been sure to book everything in advance. Booking skiing far enough in advance meant we got early bird prices and it also ensured that the hot springs, thermal pools, bungee jumping etc, were not booked out.
To ski or not to ski? When going to New Zealand in Winter, this is definitely something to consider, and of course, my answer was yes! I have only been skiing once before so I cannot wait to go again. There are several places to ski in New Zealand but The Remarkables seems to be the favourite of so many people. We have booked in a few lessons as well as getting a lift pass so we can spend time on the slopes ourselves.
I cannot wait to go to New Zealand, we have so many exciting things booked and I will be sure to share it all when I am back!
